Lemon Chickpea

I had an "in-house" lunch today (half of a chicken fajita pressed sandwich, some green salad, some pasta salad -- which didn't feel like enough since we had to do some networking activity, but was probably good so that I eat less and healthier!), so here's some pictures of yesterday's lunch from Flavors, this healthy & organic place near the office.
Organic lemon chickpea salad...

... and turkey chili (which apparently is a "premium soup" so it's a dollar more).

Unlike today (it's currently in the mid-50s), yesterday it was very, very cold. Wind chills in the teens when I went to lunch. It was definitely a soup day and chili kept me nice and warm!

Mediterranean Potato

Hello! It's been quite awhile since I started this blog for my lunches and I haven't posted anything to it yet...

It's a long story in which I was supposed to start posting on my birthday, didn't download my pictures that night, pondered the different ways I could handle a "missed day" on the blog, didn't upload pictures for more days, got slammed at work, never ended up posting any lunches because I was hopelessly behind, and then resolved to wait until I could switch laptops and download photos daily instead of inconveniencing others by using their machines.

So that's the story. And now I'm back. To try to figure out what type of blog I want this to be.

Today it was cold out (30s). I also was looking for a healthier lunch since my stomach hadn't been feeling great in the morning, and I was so incredibly exhausted. My go-to lunch when I'm looking for something quick and healthy is Pret a Manger. It used to be Cafe Europa since it was on the ground floor of our office building and it was too cold to go outside. But ever since (i) they got rid of the burrito bar and (ii) I got a nice ankle-length puffy winter coat that's like a big down blanket, I can venture a little further. Pret it is (and maybe Flavors which I've now tried once). Not the most adventurous choices but they're solid, and I am trying to eat healthier for many reasons.

I like that Pret sells "slim" sandwiches (i.e., half sandwiches). I like getting a half sandwich and a soup (which is what I also did at Europa for about 2 years), and they had more sandwiches that I liked (at Europa, I stuck to the adobo chicken, day after day). This is the "new" Mediterranean tuna. It had no mayo, so I figured it was safer for today. What I do wish is that they would sell the holiday lunch sandwich (I think in the UK, it's the Christmas lunch sandwich) in the slim size so I could get soup too!

I love the chipotle sweet potato soup at Pret. I had intended to try it for awhile and finally got to it a couple of weeks ago (or less). I usually get a small, but today went for a medium. I preferred their soups to Europa when I first tried them because the ingredients were better, the soups (especially the lentil) were more hearty and less watery, and they just tasted better. I've never gotten a medium before, so I don't know if they always fill it below the top or not. (And the picture looks worse than it did in person.) They're usually pretty good about the small size. Maybe they were running out of the sweet potato soup. The first time I tried it I got the bottom of the barrel. It's fairly popular.

So there's lunch #1 for the blog! If only it were my "most popular" Pret lunch... the chicken and mozzarella baguette half sandwich with the Moroccan lentil soup! My fallback lunch at my fallback place!

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog!

I decided to start a new blog to track my lunches for a few reasons:

1. I take photos of what I eat for lunch and this will encourage me to take more pictures.

2. I want to think more carefully about what I eat for lunch and hold myself accountable (and so I go to the gym when necessary!).

3. I think it may make me more adventurous and willing to travel further to try new places that I read about on blogs so that I don't post the photos of the same food over and over again.

4. I love food photography and it's nice to have another showcase other than my regular photo albums.

5. For fun!

And what better time to start than today, my birthday? So welcome to the adventure!
